Research

My main research interest is in combinatorics and geometry. I work on face lattices of convex polytopes, hyperplane arrangements, Eulerian posets and oriented matroids. Of special interest are the "flag vectors" of these objects. The flag vector counts incidences of faces or elements of specified dimension or rank. The interplay between combinatorics and algebraic geometry is found in the connection between convex polytopes and toric varieties. Recently I have also been involved in projects on simplicial complexes associated with graphs.
